In the Internet Wormhole: Songwriting Links

Definition of wormhole: A wormhole is a theoretical passage through space-time that could create shortcuts for long journeys across the universe. www.space.com/20881-wormholes.html
Internet wormholes are when you start out looking for one thing and then kind of randomly or intuitively follow links any which way. I found this that describes the experience:
http://cogdogblog.com/2011/03/wormhole/

So this is a thing: And here is a short description of my latest travel down an internet wormhole to illustrate my state of being right now.
I am really obsessed with songwriting, as I wrote about in my previous blog piece. As with any endeavor, you never really know if it's any good until you put it out into the world and see if it takes. I know there is the model of going to Nashville and doing demos and then hoping someone important says, hey you're great, I'll sign you.

And then there's the competition route, so I googled songwriting competitions and came up with several options. You can do the same, if you're interested, but I ended up signing up for the mailing list for the USA Songwriting Competition. Here is where I started my wormhole travel.

After reading the blog, I went back to the home page and was pulled to follow the link called Songwriters Forum. This this took me to a Facebook page. On this page, the first story was about the USA Songwriting Competition published in the Music Connection website, which was "Founded in 1977 on the principle of bridging the gap between “the street and the elite,” Music Connection has grown from a popular print publication into a spectrum of products and services that address the wants and needs of musicians, the music tech community and industry support services."

I tracked over the tabs and under Music News, I clicked on a link called Heart and Soul (just going with the flow here) and the top story is an industry profile on Chideo: "Combining the cause-based interests of creative artists with innovative online content to raise awareness." I find it so inspiring to know there are people in the world who want to make the world a better place. Do-gooders. On this Heart and Soul  section is a whole collection of musicianny (yes, I made that word up just now) do-gooders.

Under the Opportunities tab, I found a story on a Songwriter app called qwaqq (? - don't know why) which was developed as a way for songwriters to stream their songs, find audiences, and get recognition.

It's amazing to me that with technology now, there is not just one way to "break in." It seems that "Just Do It" is a reasonable investment of your creative energy, as there are more and more outlets for you to share your art, whatever form it may take.

So that is what I learned from my travel down this wormhole. So much more to discover here, but at a certain point, you have to go back to the main idea - being creative.
