Why Do You Have To Be That Way?

In 2018, a friend who leads the Guam ska band, Fat Tofu, was doing a GoFundMe to raise funds for a tour to Japan. One of the perks was that they would do a cover of our choice and have record it in their studio. Well, it just so happened I had written this ska song. So here it is on Soundcloud.
Lyrics:
Why do you have to be that way?
The one who lies to self-protect
To ones who are less fortunate

You’ve-got no heart no human respect.

Why do you have to be that way?
So mean and proudly arrogant.
To those who see things a diffrent way
You call them names, meant to demean them.

Why can't you be the person who cares
Who lets kindness be the guide
Knowing energy that we share
Is a pow'r that can move a tide.
We have pow'r that can move a tide

Why do you have to be that way?
The one who can't say racism's wrong
Who values guns over children's lives
Who thinks being mean is being strong

Why do you have to be that way
Who denies climate change is real
Who thinks its okay to abuse the earth
Like colonizers and treasures they steal.

Come on here we are at the bridge
Still on opposite sides
I'm still a bleeding heart liberal snowflake
You’re- still refusing to try
To meet me half-way-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay.
There must be a way-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay -ay -ay.

Conciliation

I want to be the per-son who cares
Who lets kindness be my guide
Knowing energy that we share
has a pow'r that can move a tide
We have pow'r that can move a tide
Pow'r for justice that can move a tide

I Don't Know Why You Still Love Him

I don't know why you still love him.
That aw-ful-dis-gust-ing man.
That emp-ty shell un-de-ser-ving.
To be the leader of this land.

He is who he is that's too bad.
I wish that was-nt so.
What's worse is that you still like him.
You can't seem to let him go.

We need to vote him out.
Wish that you could see.
A ra-cist nar-cis-sis-tic man is bad for de-mo-cra-cy.

Corrupt be-fore this pow-er.
Con-tin-ues to fool you.
Why oh why can't you see his lies.
And join me in vo-ting blue.

Country is com-ing a-part.
Blame him and his hench men.
They don't care bout ba-bies or a-ny-ones lives.
They're an-ti-A-mer-i-can.

We need to vote him out.
Wish that you could see.
A ra-cist nar-cis-sis-tic man is bad for de-mo-cra-cy.

It's o-kay to change your mind
It's brave to fi-nal-ly face.
It's been about main-tain-ing pow-er.
Of a cer-tain do-mi-nant race.

Would-nt you ra-ther be
in a more just hu-mane place?
Where all are treat-ed with dig-ni-ty and re-spect.
Where love is strong-er than hate
.
We need to vote him out.
Wish that you could see.
A ra-cist nar-cis-sis-tic man is bad for de-mo-cra-cy.
A self-ish mi-so-gy-nis-tic man is bad for de-mo-cra-cy.A fas-cist i-di-o-tic man is bad for de-mo-craaaa-cy

Story Behind the Song

When I first wrote the melody for this song, t was called "I Told A Man I Loved Him" which was about heartbreak. I wanted to write a protest time for the election season and I used the melody I had already come up with. I had it as a goal to feel confident enough to video myself and post it on Facebook. I never got that confident, but Election Day was soon to pass. I finally decided, no matter what, on the Saturday before Election Day, I would do it.

Here it is on Facebook.
