One of the first things I did on my Guam vacation was perform in an open mic poetry reading. Some may be surprised at this. It was the first time I had done this, but I have been a fan of spoken word for a while and I had actually written this poem meant to be recited out loud. When I wrote it, I spoke it, listening for the rhythms in the phrasing. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but somehow I was ready for it. This was such a relaxed, accepting crowd. The hosts were very encouraging. It also helped that it was a bar, so there was a little bit of altered consciousness. Just a little.
