A few months ago, I purchased a Vitamix. Sure, I could have got a cheaper brand, but I was impressed with the Costco demo. It was not an impulse buy because I was sold on it a few months before I bought it. I told myself that I would buy it next time the demo came to Costco. And that is what happened. Smoothies have replaced coffee. I never thought that would be possible, but I realized I wasn't enjoying my coffee and finding it hard to drink both coffee and smoothie for breakfast. And I have not had any withdrawal symptoms.
I start out my day making a smoothie, and it is very creative. When I first got the Vitamix, I followed the recipe book pretty exclusively. But I came to realize that I can do my own thing and thus, every day begins with a creative act of making a smoothie. I have come to experiment with different ingredients. I thought that I needed a banana, but when I ran out of bananas, I used an apple instead. Once in a while, I'll pick a fig from our tree, and that is wonderful too. Other ingredients I have tried: peanut butter, sliced almonds, walnuts (don't recommend that), cantaloupe, strawberries, Greek yogurt. Almond milk and frozen mixed berries are the constant ingredients. Mom dug up about 6 ginger roots from the yard recently, and I have been throwing in a slice in my smoothie. It gives it a fresh bite that I love. It is my favorite ingredient. I remember when I had a hard time doing something creative every day. Now, it is a way of life.
