I don't even remember where and when I got this book, but the title really resonates with me, so I know it is something I would definitely choose. I had always thought that travel should be more than sightseeing. It is hard to do more than that unless you have an intention to.
This book really solidifies the intention of travel as a political act. Steves (of PBS fame) promotes the idea of travel that informs your views, broadens your horizons, deepens your perspective, so that you become a better-informed citizen of the world, and your own country. I admire this man and the career he has built as a travel writer and promoter, but his take on travel gives his work a humanitarian component. Highly recommend this book. Please someone read it so I can talk about it with you.
